Caring For Our Community

Dental Services

GFHS’ core services include primary medical, behavioral health  and dental care to children and adults at several practices across Catawba, Davidson, Gaston, Iredell and Lincoln counties.

Dental services for adults and children are offered at 5 practices, and include exams, extractions, first time infant exams, fillings, fluoride varnish, primary crowns, routine cleaning and sealants.

GFHS is committed to providing care for  the overall health needs of the whole patient, and promotes oral health for our pediatric population through the dental and medical services we provide . Our pediatric primary medical care providers will assess our pediatric patients’ risk for developing caries due to deficient fluoride in the water supply. Our providers will also apply fluoride varnish to the primary teeth of all infants and children at the age of primary tooth eruption. Ask your provider if these treatments are appropriate for your child.

Adult and pediatric medical services are often co-located with dental  practices or are conveniently located nearby,  and behavioral health services are offered at all medical locations.  GFHS is a healthcare home of choice for its patients.

More detailed information about GFHS’ integrated services and programs such as behavioral health counseling,  pharmacies, medication assistance programs, interpretation assistance,  after-hours medical advice line, specialty referrals, clinics and education programs for diabetes, nutrition and vision care, to name a few, can be found under the SERVICES tab on this website.

Additional Dental Programs

Dental ACCESS Program

GFHS’ dental ACCESS  program began in Gaston County in 2000, partnering with Title 1 elementary schools to provide dental care to school children otherwise unlikely to receive it.  Initially, school children were transported to GFHS’ dental practice to receive receive oral health education, preventative care, examinations and treatment.

Today, GFHS operates two Mobile Dental Units (MDU), taking the ACCESS Program to a new level, bringing full-service dental care right to participating elementary schools, thus minimizing students’ time away from class.  Named GFHSmiles, each unit has three chairs, and is equipped with X-ray (including panagraph) capability and is fully staffed with a dentist and three dental assistants.  The MDUs now serve students at participating schools in Catawba, Gaston Iredell and Lincoln Counties.

Childhood Health Outreach Program (CHOP)

The CHOP program works to integrate medical and dental services for GFHS’ patients, and coordinates access to dental care for children served at the Gaston and Catawba County Department of Health & Human Services’ WIC and Child Health clinics.  Through educational literature, on-site advice and appointment services, patients are educated on dental services offered, and are assisted in obtaining care in a seamless, convenient manner.
