GFHS’ core services include primary medical, behavioral health and dental care to children and adults at several locations across Catawba, Davidson, Gaston, Iredell and Lincoln counties.
Over the past decade, professionals in both the mental health and physical health communities have developed a strong interest in the integration of behavioral health services into the primary care medical system.
Recognizing the multiple needs in the communities we serve, GFHS has moved towards a fully integrated care model in order to provide supportive services beyond the scope of traditional primary care. Our integrated care model allows both primary care and behavioral health to work in a shared system.
GFHS’ Behavioral Health services are now provided at each of our 10 primary medical care locations
Behavioral Health providers are available during regular clinic hours, working with your medical provider, to address a variety of concerns including:
- Alcohol Use
- Chronic medical conditions*
- Energy Level

Substance Abuse Program
In response to the Opioid Epidemic and rising rates of unintentional overdose deaths in our communities, GFHS has taken steps to increase screening, identification, and treatment of substance use disorders within our practices. Questons about substance use and risk taking behaviors are asked at every medical visit. In addition, GFHS offers screening, brief intervention, and referral to treatment (SBIRT) services to provide the best possible care for patients who need substance abuse treatment.
GFHS has also partnered with local hospitals, substance use community organizations and Health Departments to develop a Medication Assisted Treatment (MAT) program for opioid dependence. The MAT program uses a combination of medication and behavioral interventions to provide evidence-based treatment for at-risk groups. The program focuses on pregnant women with opioid dependence and works with local Health Departments to identify potential participants for MAT.
